Goals and Objectives

Mission

Founded in 1991, Tamara's House is a feminist, culturally-inclusive non-profit organization with a volunteer board of directors, dedicated to providing services to support the healing of adult females who have experienced child sexual abuse.

GOALS:

1. To continue to provide safe space within a community of care for women (18 years and older) who were sexually abused in childhood, and who are at a point in their lives of wanting to work on healing.
Objectives:
  • to ensure continued provision of services through sustainability activities, such as fund-raising, grant proposals, etc.
  • to ensure continued provision of a safe space
  • to ensure continuation of the necessary supports and staffing to provide 24-hour services, including: Residential healing centre, Drop-in and support services, Cross-cultural services, Volunteer opportunities and Research and education

2. To support women in their self-directed healing processes.

Objectives:
  • To provide services that focus on: individual support, group support, educational groups and resources and volunteer opportunities

3. To provide supportive services and education for families and partners of survivors of sexual abuse.

Objectives:
  • To provide information, support groups, and workshops for family members and partners of survivors.

4. To create and make available specialized training and educational programmes for people who are working with and/or caring for women who have been sexually abused.

Objectives:
  • to provide workshops, courses, seminars, practicums.

5. To enhance opportunities for research into various aspects of sexual abuse.

Objectives:
  • to provide an atmosphere conducive to appropriate research projects.

6. To promote public education about sexual abuse

Objectives:
  • to develop co-operative efforts with other agencies/organizations/individuals working with adult survivors of sexual abuse.

7. To integrate an understanding of the role of power into every aspect of the operations of Tamara's House.

Objectives:
  • to refine our understanding through continued attention to a) voice and b) boundaries.
