Volunteer Achievements
The Tamara's House volunteers are an exceptional group of women. Volunteers have been the guiding force for our agency at every phase of our development. From the beginning when a group of concerned volunteers recognized the need for a place like Tamara's House, through the process of making that dream a reality and up to the present day, volunteers have made their contribution to our growth. The programs and services offered by our agency would not be possible without the support of dedicated volunteers. Since incorporating in 1991, volunteers have done tremendous work in many areas including the development of:- a business plan
- a video,"The Hope and the Healing"
- a benefit album,"Safe Passage"
- an archival album
- Development and implementation of a volunteer training manual
- Meewasin Valley Stewardship Program
- Our active participation on many community groups
- and many more
Volunteers have also been the life-blood of Tamara's House by their work on the Board of Directors, providing complementary care, making presentations to community groups (Public Education), fundraising, and doing a tremendous amount of administration work.
The women who came out to our Centre have survived many terrible things and our volunteers have been there to listen and support them, even though the stories are sometimes hard to hear. But it is important for a survivor to be able to tell her story.
The amount of work that our volunteers have done, or how important they are to the survival of Tamara's House cannot be adequately described. It can be said that without the work of our volunteers, Tamara's House would never have opened. Without their continued support, we would not be able to continue to provide much needed support to sexual abuse survivors.
